This is from the most powerful film I have ever seen on the subject of Vietnam, or for that matter war in general.  The only film on the subject I have seen receive universal praise from everyone that sees it.  Before any one regardless of office sends any mother's perfect child into harms way they should be required to read this letter.  There will never be a good war but I am not naive I know there are sometimes there are necessary wars.  May God grant everyone the wisdom to know the difference.  Allow me to add this as I listen I am sure Ellen Burstyn's tears are real.  This is only human.  How can anyone with a soul listen to or read this letter and not be brought to tears.  I can feel this mother's pain and pray that God grants her the solace she deserves.

I remember watching this movie as a kid with my father, who also served in Vietnam. I would sit and listen as he told me those stories. Cant imagine how so many left to fight in a far land at such a young age. Well my dad Terry A."Pops" Gibson, recently died and ive been looking through photo albums reminiscing when i saw something that caught my attention in a different way. I knew i seen it before. Its the photo of Billy Stocks, rifle on shoulder and cast over hand. So i looked for this video to show my kids and found you. Hearing his mother talk about her always happy and proud son drew tears from eyes that just havent quit. Im sorry for your loss. I apprreciate the sacrifice your son made. He and my father had grown up in Glen Burnie and im sure they will see each other soon too. I will forever have love for you in my heart and i won't forget "Spanky"
